Rook piercing

A rook piercing sits in the inner ridge of cartilage above the ear canal, a fold most people do not know they have. It heals in around 6-12 months and takes a curved barbell or a fine hoop in 14k recycled gold.

What it is

The Rook placement

The rook is the ridge of folded cartilage above the ear canal, sitting between the daith below and the conch beside it. Not everyone has a pronounced enough fold, so we assess your anatomy first. Where it works, it adds depth to the middle of the ear that no rim piercing can.

Healing & aftercare

How it heals

Around 6-12 months. It is thick, folded cartilage, so it is one of the slower placements. Clean carefully with saline and avoid earbuds and pressure.

For the full ritual, see our Ear Spa & aftercare guide.

FAQ

Rook piercing, common questions

Does a rook piercing hurt?

A deep pressure rather than a quick pinch, as it passes through folded cartilage.

Can everyone get a rook?

No. It depends on having a pronounced enough ridge. We check in the studio before booking.

What jewelry goes in a rook?

A curved barbell to heal in, then a fine hoop once settled.

How long does it take to heal?

Around 6-12 months, sometimes longer. Patience pays here.
