Hygiene first: How to clean your piercing

Hygiene First:
Wash your hands - Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching or cleaning your piercing to prevent introducing bacteria to the site.

Clean daily: Use sterile saline solution to gently rinse your piercing. Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh soaps, as they can irritate and dry out the skin.
- Spray or soak saline solution directly to the piercing. For difficult-to-reach areas, soak a sterile gauze in the solution and hold it against the piercing for a few minutes.
- Avoid twisting the jewellery, it can irritate the tissue and slow healing.
- Pat the area dry with disposable gauze or lint-free paper towels. Avoid cloth towels, as they can harbor bacteria and snag on your jewelry.

General tips for healing

General Tips:
- Hands Off: Minimize handling or fiddling with your jewelry during healing.
- Avoid Contamination: Keep your piercing away from dirty surfaces, cosmetics, and harsh chemicals like hair products and swimming pool water.
- Sleeping Safely: Use a clean pillowcase and avoid putting pressure on your new piercing.

Troubleshooting: What to expect during healing

Normal Healing Signs:
It’s common to experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness in the first weeks. A small amount of clear or pale yellow fluid may also be present—this is part of the healing process.

When to Contact Us:
If you notice the following, please reach out to ENNUI Atelier immediately for assistance.

- Persistent redness, heat, or swelling beyond a few days.
- Excessive pain, throbbing, or a sensation of tightness.
- Discharge with an unpleasant odour.
- Jewelry feels embedded or difficult to move freely.

Ear piercing healing timelines

Lobe Piercing: 6–8 weeks
 - The soft tissue of the earlobe heals relatively quickly. Keep jewelry in and avoid pressure on the piercing (e.g., sleeping on it).

Helix Piercing (Upper Ear Cartilage): 6–12 months
 - Cartilage heals slower than soft tissue due to lower blood supply. Swelling may persist in the first few weeks, and bumps may appear if irritated.

Forward Helix: 6–12 months -
Healing requires consistent aftercare and avoiding trauma, such as catching the jewelry on hair or clothing.

Tragus Piercing: 6–12 months
 - This piercing, located near the ear canal, can be prone to irritation from headphones or earbuds. Avoid prolonged contact with these items.

Conch Piercing: 6–12 months -
Inner cartilage piercings like the conch take time to heal. Avoid pressure and follow cleaning protocols carefully.

Daith Piercing: 6–12 months
 - Positioned inside the ear cartilage, this piercing needs extra care to avoid irritation. Be gentle when cleaning to ensure proper healing.

Rook Piercing: 6–12 months -
Located in the cartilage fold above the daith, the rook requires patience and a snug-fitting piece of jewelry to avoid irritation.
